Self Circulation

We are excited to tell you about our new Self Circulation screen!

What is it: a self-service screen where your patrons can check out, check in, and renew their own items.

Cost: $99 per additional station AND until November 30, 2017 we will give you $20 off!

Your main installation of ResourceMate will have this feature for no additional cost. If you would like Self Circulation to be set up on an additional computer, it will be the license fee above.

Online Training Sessions

Our Level 1 Online Training Session is intended to show new users the basics, as well as show many of the features and capabilities of ResourceMate®.

The next Level 1 Training Session will be on December 12, 2017 from 12-4pm, EST.

Our Level 2 Online Training Session is for those users who are proficient with the basics of ResourceMate® and/or for those who wish to learn more about the features in the Extended and Premium versions.

Spotlight On ...

The Elizabeth Bowers Memorial Library

The Library was a partnership project with the Elizabeth Bowers Zambia Education Fund (EBZEF), Peace Corps, and the village community of Lumwana West in NW Zambia.

Answers provided by Sandra Kamulosu, Memorial Library Librarian.

Why do you love being a librarian?
"I love being a librarian because the library is the bank of knowledge. Therefore, I want to give services to the community so that the knowledge that is stored in the library can be well utilized."

How many patrons and items do you have?
"The Elizabeth Bowers Memorial Library has over 100 patrons, 18,000 volumes, 4 laptops, 1 printer."

How many staff and volunteers?
"I work alone in the library, but we have teachers who also help me in my absence [for my college two-week residency]: Secondary section 12 qualified teachers, Primary section 9 qualified teachers, and 2 community teachers."

What are the hours of your library?
"The Library opens at 08:00 hours and breaks for lunch at 13:00, then opens from 14:00-17:00 hours."

Can you give a possible profile of readers? Children of various ages? Adults? People outside the community? Grandparents?
"Elizabeth Bowers Memorial Library serves a big number of people: 335 pupils from Grades 8-12 years, 400 pupils from Grade 1-7 ages 6-13 years, 80 registered patrons from both the community and outside ages 20-75 years."

What is the range of the education & professional experience of your readers? How wide a variety of people do you serve?
"The Library has brought a great positive impact to our community. Some patrons have acquired high professional papers like degrees using the same knowledge stocked in the library. I serve a very big number of people because our library is considered a district library as it contains many books."

How does it impact your community? What benefits have you noticed?
"The Library has a great impact (positive) on our community. The levels of Education have gone very high because people have access to the library materials at any time. Also, reading levels have improved as compared with before. The use of the library has great benefit. Illiteracy is reducing step by step. The library is our community gathering place. Our library is not just helping Lumwana West alone, but the whole district, and our country Zambia at large."

Do you have a favorite story of something that happened at your library?
"Yes, a story can be written. The library is our community facility that is contributing to the elimination of poverty in our community."

Has there been an interesting or fun activity at the library?
"Yes, much activity that takes place at the library. Sometimes the library is used as a computer lab as it contains adequate power from solar panels. The solar panels make it possible for students to study at night after working in the fields all day."

“The most unusual and funniest thing that has happened at the Library is the use of the computers by very old community members whom I didn’t expect to have interest and the courage to learn how to operate. A certain old man aged 75 approached me directly and said to me, ‘Sandra, I would not die without knowing how to operate a computer as long as we have computers in our community.’ These words built me as a librarian, and I got interested. I had no objections to start offering my services to this old man. I started teaching him basics on how to operate a computer.”

“The other unusual thing is the use of the Library at night mostly by our pupils. Considering the weather for this season, I decided to reduce the number of working hours for afternoon session and decided to be having night sessions for studies only. This idea was deliberately done to observe if the pupils had interest to use the library but it was interesting that pupils were and they are still coming in big numbers more than before. This experience doesn’t usually happen to our pupils."

What are your goals for your library, and how does ResourceMate help you meet your goals?
"The goal for our library is to improve on our reading culture and to encourage people to utilize the knowledge so that we can have the knowledge to get better jobs and to improve our area and the country at large."

Technical Tip

New Features with the Latest Update (4.0.29)

Support Ends Date Now Automatically Updated

After you update to the latest Build (4.0.29), when renewing your support, you will no longer need to enter a support code into your ResourceMate program. On startup, ResourceMate will now communicate to our Cloud Services using your Serial Number to get any changes to Amazon access for ISBN Retrieval (available with Support) and/or to update your Support Ends Date. This will ensure Amazon access is working for ISBN Retrieval (available with Support) and/or to automatically update your Support Ends Date without having to receive a support code from us.

Listing Reports – Easily Customize Your Titles

When generating Listing Reports you will now (after updating to Build 4.0.29) have the option to customize the Report title and Page Comment (Title) each time a report is generated. You can now easily add a comment to reflect the data contained in the report. When generating listing reports, you will now be asked if you want to override the default report titles. This is an easy way to provide a unique title just for that report – an easy way to indicate for example, the search criteria used.
