Having trouble getting updates from the web, using ISBN Retrieval or registering?

These problems usually indicate a problem related to a firewall that is blocking your programs access to the internet. Any changes to firewall settings should be supervised by your systems administrator.

Windows XP®

Click on Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall. Ensure that "Don't allow exceptions" is not checked. Click on the Exceptions tab and make sure that ResourceMate and RMUpdater have a check beside them. Click on Ok.

Norton Internet Security or Norton Firewall

Open Norton Firewall. Click on Configure. Click on Programs. Look for the ResourceMate icon. The program name may be a date like 03 Oct 2005. Change the setting to Permit All. Repeat the same for RMUpdater.exe. Click on Ok.

McAfee Internet Security Suite

Open Security Center, Click on Firewall, View the Internet Applications List. Under File Name find ResourceMate.exe and "Change Permission to" Allow Full Access. Repeat the same for RMUpdater.exe.

Internet blocking programs such as Cyber Sitter can also prevent ftp access. They must be configured to allow rmupdater.exe to download from an ftp site.

Test whether the computer can download from an ftp site. This is what checking for updates does. Using Explorer on the ResourceMate 3.0 computer go to ftp.resourcemate.com, right click, Login as resmatetest with password of testuser. Download the test.resourcemate file. That file is simply a test file. If the computer cannot login or download that file, please adjust internet access for that computer so it can ftp from ftp.resourcemate.com.

To setup proxy server settings click on Start, Programs, ResourceMate 3.0, ResourceMate System Updater, then click on Advanced to enter the Proxy settings. The following will help explain the Proxy Types.

Usersite mode - Send command USER user@hostname - USER after login

Site mode - Send command SITE (with login)

Open Mode - Send command OPEN

UserPass Mode - USER user@firewalluser@hostname / PASS pass@firewallpass

Transparent Mode - First use the USER and PASS command with the firewall username and password, and then with the target host username and password

Firewall Mode - USER hostuserid@hostname firewallUsername

FTP Proxy Mode - HTTP Proxy with FTP support.

Until this is solved, updates can be downloaded from www.resourcemate.com/rmupdate3.html , ISBN retrieval can be substituted with Import from Internet when copying search results from www.loc.gov/z3950 .
