As you enter the first few letters of the author's last name, the field will be filled in with any previously entered authors that match what you have typed.  You can also click on

to see the full list


If you are beginning the entry process you may wish to choose from the lists supplied by Jaywil Software.  To include these lists from Jaywil, choose File, Re-Index, Refresh and Pack Data Files from the File Menu, click on Refresh Lists and answer Yes to the questions about including Jaywil lists.


Type the name of the author of the item in the format Last name, First name (e.g. Smith, Sam).  Enter Dr. Sam Smith Ph.D. as Smith Ph.D., Dr. Sam.  Enter birth year and death year after first name (Smith, Sam, 1852-1935).


The combination of Resource Type, Title, Sub-title, Series, Volume and Author make an item unique.


If you will be generating card catalog cards, the author will automatically be included in the body of the card when you press the Library Card Information tab.  You do not have to enter author information anywhere else for this item.


Press [TAB] when finished entering this information.

Regular - Utilities, Field Settings, Item - change the Default Label value

Plus - File, Resource Types, Detail, choose the resource type, General Fields, change the substitute label value


This information may be set to read only or invisible by doing the following

Regular - Utilities, Field Settings, Item - check ReadOnly or Invisible in the Field Settings column

Plus - File, Resource Types, Detail, choose the resource type, General Fields, check ReadOnly or Invisible in the Field Settings column


To make sure something gets entered in this field, do the following

Regular - Utilities, Field Settings, Item - check Required in the Field Settings column

Plus - File, Resource Types, Detail, choose the resource type, General Fields, check Required in the  Field Settings column


To set a default value whenever new items are added, do the following

Regular - Utilities, Field Settings, Item - enter a value in the Default value column

Plus - File, Resource Types, Detail, choose the resource type, General Fields, enter a value in the Default value column


To indicate whether this field is searchable by patrons, do the following

Regular or Plus - Utilities, Field Settings, Item - check the box in the "Patron Can Search" column


To indicate whether this field is available in a keyword search, do the following

Regular or Plus - Utilities, Field Settings, Item - check the box in the "Include in Keyword Search" column
